In over 700 islands, they stretch from the coast of Florida to the southern tip of Cuba in a chain between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Less experienced sailors will benefit from short strokes and sheltered waters, but sailing professionals are also in the right place here in an area of 650 by 750 km with longer distances and blue water sailing. The Bahamas has a subtropical climate with slightly lower temperatures than the Caribbean islands but of course still with very pleasant air and water temperatures at an average of 25 degrees. The islands are therefore suitable as a year-round destination. Although affected to a lesser degree, the islands are in the hurricane belt. The hurricanes can occur from June to November. This is also the time of greatest rainfall.

The waters are more protected than other areas due to the many individual islands and reefs. However, caution is advised when approaching the reefs, so knowledge of coastal navigation is essential or you can hire help in the form of a boatman.

You can depart from the capital Nassau or you can fly to Great Abaco. Not far from the airport is the Marina Harbourview in Marsh Harbour. The area encourages island hopping due to the large number of islands. Each island shows its own face. On Grand Bahama Island, for example, you can take advantage of a wide range of sports and many nightlife options. Anglers are drawn to Berry Island. For divers, there are underwater caves to discover in the national parks and an incredible variety of corals, tropical fish and other marine life on 2400 reefs. Eleuthera is interesting for water sports enthusiasts because of its location between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, and nature lovers will find a bird paradise on Inagua. Towards the south, those in need of relaxation will find peace and quiet on Cat, Long or Crooked Island. But here you have to be prepared for the fact that the supply possibilities are meager to non-existent; only 30 of the more than 700 islands are inhabited.
