From here you should not limit yourself to the coast of Puerto Rico but also explore the side islands. The closest one is Isla Palominos. White, soft sand and crystal clear water invite you to swim and sunbathe. If you come during the week, you will have more peace and quiet, because the locals also like to come here on weekends, so then it's more the people who want to party who get their money's worth. Further east you will find the Spanish Virgin Islands, which include Culebra, Flamenco and Culebritas. The main port of Culebra is located in a large bay, the Ensenada Honda. Here you can sail in a dinghy through the Dinghy Channel and taste the local specialties in the local restaurants and bars. To the east, you can spend the night in the bay Bahia del Almodovar and also go kayaking or snorkeling. Further east on the island of Culebritas, things are more pristine. At the beautiful Tortega Beach you can relax and enjoy the view from the old lighthouse. In the north of Culebras, next to Playa Tamarindo, there is also a beach that is considered one of the most beautiful in the world, Flamenco Beach.
To the west you will come to the island of Vieques. Here you can hike in wild nature in the National Wildlife Refuge and don't be surprised if you encounter wild horses on the island. You can relax on black sand at Playa Negra or swim, snorkel or stand-up paddle in crystal clear waters at Playa Caracas or Playa La Chiva. In the south of the island lies the town of Esperanza. Here in Mosquito Bay you will experience a special natural phenomenon. It is one of the largest bioluminescent lagoons in the world: microorganisms in contact with other organisms produce bright blue light in which the water shines at night. Motor boats are prohibited, so it is best to go by kayak.
