Yacht charter Tortola

Tortola is the largest island of the British Virgin Islands. These belong to the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea and to the group of Virgin Islands, a part of which also belongs to the USA. The British Virgin Islands are an overseas territory of Great Britain and include over 60 islands. Therefore, a passport is required for entry into Tortola, which should be valid for 6 months beyond the trip. German citizens do not need a visa for a stay of up to 30 days. If you intend to visit the American part of the Virgin Islands, you should consider a visa or ESTA beforehand. Further and current information can be found on the page of the Foreign Office.
Even though the islands belong to Great Britain, the common currency is the US dollar. The official language is English.

Travel, activities and discoveries for your yacht charter vacation

There are no flights to the islands directly from Germany, you will usually change planes in England, other Caribbean islands or the USA. It is best to inquire in advance if a visa or other documents are required for transit. You will arrive on Tortola at the Terrance B. Lettsome airport.

Nearby is one of our bases, Hodges Creek. The marina is located in a sheltered bay and is well equipped. The other one is located in Port Pucell and is called Joma Marina. The bay is also home to the island's capital, Road Town. Delve into the island's past, visit old plantations and learn how sugar cane is grown and processed. A visit to a rum distillery is also recommended here, as rum has a long tradition on the former pirate island. Visit one of the many forts that were built here when the island was fiercely fought over by the Europeans. Several museums provide information about the colonial past, slavery, pirates and the early settlers. You can also take a trip to the Botanical Gardens.
Tortola offers a wide range of water sports, whether surfing, kiteboarding, deep sea fishing, scuba diving or snorkeling. At Rhone National Marine Park, diving enthusiasts can descend to an ancient shipwreck and explore the biodiverse underwater world. Palm-fringed beaches can be found in bays like Brewer's Bay, Smuggler's Cove, Apple Bay or Josiah's Bay Beach. In the interior of the island, Sage Mountain National Park invites you to go hiking.

Due to its central location in the group of the Virgin Islands Tortola is the ideal starting point for island hopping, whether to Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke or to the coral island Anegada.
