Small charming villages with gray stone houses and white windows. Charming châteaux and abbeys as well as manor houses rising from the meadow landscape. Normandy has fascinating landscapes and is a challenging sailing area. Despite its northern location and the Atlantic Ocean, the climate is quite mild due to the Gulf Stream. Therefore, in summer, sun worshippers can enjoy the long sandy beaches and the weather is ideal for cycling or hiking, for example on the Zöllner trail. Cherbourg, along with Diélette, is a perfect starting point for a Törn in Normandy because of its central location.

Yacht charter Cherbourg

The municipality of Cherbourg is located in the north of the Contentin peninsula, which juts into the English Channel. In the city of the same name Cherbourg you can take a walk through the old town. A highlight is the maritime museum "La Cité de la Mer", where you can see, among other things, a nuclear submarine as well as various exhibitions on the subject of the deep sea. The city is also steeped in history in connection with the Allied invasion of Normandy. Romantic castles and abbeys are located in the green meadow landscape, like outside the city the Château des Ravelet with a beautiful garden.
The port of Cherbourg is not characterized by fishing or trade as others are, but traditionally a military port, which is still used as such. Here is also the Marina Cherbourg for sailing yachts, from which you can start your trip.
Culinary attractions in Normandy are cider and calvados, camembert and other typical cheeses, as well as fish and seafood through the coast. You can visit distilleries and cheese factories and buy local produce at the weekly markets. Apples, pears, cherries and plums are traditionally grown here.

With a yacht charter Cherbourg in Eastern Normandy

Heading east the yachtsman will encounter blooming coastlines and small towns with seaside resorts like Deauville, Trouville and Honfleur. A little further on, the lighthouse of the small island Tatihou is already visible, which lies near Saint-Vast-La-Hogue. The coastal village is a meeting place for sailors and a starting point for regattas. From the Vauban tower, there is a beautiful view over the sea and part of the peninsula. In addition, many seabirds can be observed here, which is why the island is a protected nature reserve. Every year in July, there is a literary festival on the theme of the sea. The small town of Barfleur is also worth a stop. The place is not only known for its mussels and seafood specialties, but also for its picturesque beauty.
Those interested in history will find in the east of the peninsula the landing sites of the Allies during the invasion in 1944, such as Utah and Omaha Beach. Here museums inform about the events. Already in the previous centuries the region was the scene of wars and conflicts. A contrary history, namely the conquest of England by the Normans, is shown by the famous Bayeux carpet in the Musée de la Tapisserie. A bit further east also lie the chalk cliffs of Étretat, an impressive coastal landscape shaped by wind and weather that has inspired countless painters.
