There are many attractive destinations in the English Channel, such as the scenic Normandy, the English Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, and the sailing centers on the south coast of England, Southampton and the Isle of Wight. The Channel is also a challenging area due to the strong tides and the associated currents. As one of the busiest waterways in the world, it is also busy with shipping traffic.

Yacht Charter English Channel

The English Channel, English Channel or La Manche - depending on which side you ask - stretches from the French-Belgian border in the northeast to the Ile d'Ouessaint in northwest France, and along the English coast from Dover in the east to Lands End in the west. It connects the North Sea with the Atlantic or Celtic Sea. The Gulf Stream brings balanced temperatures to the area and winds from the west prevail.
On the French coast, especially in Brittany, the tidal range is strong with up to 12 meters. Smaller harbors here lie dry during low tide. On the English side, the tidal range is smaller, but there are associated currents. East of the Isle of Wight the tidal range and currents are smaller on both sides.

With a yacht charter English Channel to the sailing center of Southern England and to the unique coasts of Northern France and the Channel Islands

The south coast of England has the warmest sea temperatures of the British Isles. No wonder that many seaside resorts are located here, like Bournemouth or Torquay in Tor Bay. The climate even allows palm trees and subtropical plants to flourish in the western part, making the region a popular tourist destination as the English Riviera. If you start your cruise from Southampton, you will immediately find yourself in a seafaring area rich in tradition. The Solent leads directly to the sailing center of the coast, from where the popular Cowes Week Regatta starts, the Isle of Wight. Various museums and places are dedicated to the topic of seafaring and shipping. To the west, the counties of Devon and Cornwall captivate with landscapes of small fishing villages and noble manor houses.

On the French side of the La Manche, our base Dielette is the starting point for a cruise in the west of the Contentin peninsula in Lower Normandy. On the border to Brittany lies a cultural highlight of Normandy, the monastery mountain Mount-Saint-Michel, which is surrounded by the sea, but can be reached on foot at low tide. From Dielette, the beautiful British Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey are also not far.

From the city of Cherbourg in the north of the Contentin peninsula there are many possibilities for a cruise. Along the French coast towards the east there are some cultural, historical as well as scenic features of Normandy, such as the city of Bayeux with its famous carpet, the chalk cliffs of Étretat and several landing sites of the Allies during the landing in 1944. From Cherbourg you can also sail along the west coast of the peninsula and to Brittany, see also Dielette.

A cruise can also be planned from the Belgian starting points of Nieuwpoort and Zeebrugge, which are located on the North Sea, toward northern France or across the English Channel. Water sports enthusiasts will find a wide range of activities along the way, and long sandy beaches stretch along the coasts of Belgium and northwestern France.
