With its huge yacht harbor with over 1500 berths, Nieuwpoort is the sailing center of Belgium. The city also attracts bathers from Belgium and surrounding countries with its long sandy beaches. For water sports enthusiasts there is a wide range of activities such as kayaking, surfing, kite surfing, water skiing and diving. From Nieuwpoort you can reach the Südküste Engands üvia the Ärmelkanal and northwards behind Zeebrügge the coast of the Netherlands with the province of Zeeland.

With its large modern marina Nieuwpoort has become the sailing center of Belgium. Accordingly, there is a good infrastructure here, parking, supermarkets and in the center restaurants and stores. The historic city center is also nice for walking. The harbor is connected by canal with the North Sea. From here you can start for a bathing vacation on the Belgian coast with its many seaside resorts. Stops to the east offer, for example, Oostende, Blankenberge or Zeebrugge with the historic city of Bruges, which lies a short distance inland. Heading west, you quickly reach the French border. Before the border lies the seaside resort of De Panne, whose center is still partly adorned by beautiful Art Nouveau houses. Here a large dune landscape stretches along the coast, which is partly under nature protection. However, it is possible to hike through the dunes on established paths. If you are interested in beach sailing, you can try it out here in the sport's place of origin. Wide, long beaches continue on the French side, alternating with small fishing villages, seaside resorts and nature reserves. The towns and villages still maintain their connection to the sea with appropriate museums, festivals, traditions and processions. A look at the calendar of events is worthwhile. If you have the appropriate equipment and sailing experience, you can also make a trip across the English Channel to England, for example to Southhampton or the Isle of Wight.
