It has developed into the sailing center of the archipelago and is a good starting point to get to know this dream area. If you stay in the vicinity of the island and its neighboring island Tahaa, you will benefit from steady trade winds and mild temperatures during relaxed sailing. If you want to get to know other larger islands of the group, like Bora Bora to the northwest, you should be an experienced sailor, because the islands can be several hundred nautical miles away. Tahiti, for example, is located about 200 km from Raiatea.
