In the north of Italy in theregion of Emilia-Romagna is the former lagoon city of Ravenna .Due to sedimentation, the city is now located about ten kilometers from the Adriatic Sea. The city on the Italian Adriatic is connected to the sea by the Canale Candiano, which also leads you to the seaside resort Marina di Ravenna. You start from the Marina di Ravenna on the coast, which is also a seaside resort. The airport of Forlì is about 30 kilometers away. Even if this part of the Adriatic is not yet as well known as a sailing area as its Croatian counterpart, the area still scores with its idyllic charm.

The city is characterized by its architecture and a 36 km long sandy beach along the Adriatic Sea, where various beach sports are offered. Also wind- and kitesurfers will be pleased here. The famous and most beautiful Italian beaches in the area near Ravenna are: Cervia, Cesenatico, Cattolica, Riccione and Rimini.
Ravenna has an exciting past as an archbishop's seat and the main residence of the Western Roman emperors. Some impressive monuments bear witness to this period, such as the Mausoleum of Empress Galla Placida, the churches of San Vitale and Sant'Apollineare from the 6th century with rare mosaic paintings. A total of eight buildings are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The tomb of the poet Dante is also located here. The city has an extensive cultural offer, it is famous for the Ravenna Festival, one of the largest European cultural events.
On the west coast of the Adriatic Sea, directly north of Ravenna are worthwhile destinations, such as the green regional park of the Po Delta, the lagoon city of Venice or the seaport of Chioggia. To the south lies the center of seaside tourism, Rimini. Alternatively, you can combine your sailing trip with excursions to Ravenna's beautiful forested hinterland with extensive nature reserves.
