Saint Martin is the name given to the northern part of the island, which lies east of the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean Sea. As an overseas territory, it belongs to France and the EU, whereas the southern part belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but forms the independent country of Sint Maarten. Therefore, there are different entry requirements. For direct entry into the French part, only an identity card for German citizens is required. However, if you want to visit the Dutch part or other islands that do not belong to France, or if you enter via third countries, you need a passport that should be valid for 6 months at the time of entry, as well as return and onward travel tickets. In Saint Martin, one may stay without a visa for a maximum of 90 days. For the other part there are further entry regulations. If you want to be flexible, your passport is the best investment. For the latest information on Saint Martin visit the website of the German Foreign Office.

Due to the partition yacht charterers have to clear in and out with their boat if they want to cross the borders with it. But for short trips it is possible to go by dinghy or to explore the other part on land.

Sint Maarten is approached directly from Paris, here you have to consider the entry regulations. On the French side, you land at Grande Case airport, near the capital Marigot, which tends to be served by smaller scheduled flights.

To the north of the island lies Anguilla, a group of islands made of coral and limestone. The overseas territory with the main island of the same name, in turn belongs to the British Kingdom. The point of contact upon arrival is the police station in Road Bay. Since Anguilla does not belong to the EU, the passport must not be missing when entering the country. The currency is the East Caribbean Dollar. Information on this can also be found on the website of the German Foreign Office.

Towards the south lies the island of Saint-Barthélemy, which, like Saint Martin, belongs to France and the EU.
