Croatia's southernmost region stretches from Ploče in the north to Montenegro in the south in a narrow strip along the Adriatic Sea. It is still interrupted by a corridor belonging to Bosnia-Herzegovina. Here in the south the wind conditions are still a bit more moderate than in the north, but also constant. Also the temperatures are somewhat higher, the best conditions for a bathing vacation and water sports vacation. In addition, the area is also very well suited for a booking in the off-season.

Dubrovnik - the pearl of the Adriatic Sea

In order to be able to sufficiently appreciate the much-praised beauty of Dubrovnik, you should plan enough time for the visit of the "Croatian Athens". In the city, the sights are lined up close together and provide an interesting cross-section of the city's history since the 7th century. From the quietly situated ACI marina, it is easy to make an excursion to the old town. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. Churches, palaces and museums offer cultural stops; restaurants, konobas and cafés provide refreshment and respite. There is also a wide range of evening events and places to go out. But the city is not only imposing on land; especially from the sea, one should linger over the panorama of the well-preserved city walls and the small orange-red roofs behind it. Those who want to combine the start with a visit to the beach will also find several beaches in Dubrovnik, both sandy and rocky.

Those who want to set off from the north can also start from Ploče and Slano.

The island world off the coast of southern Dalmatia

Just a bit north of Dubrovnik, the Elaphite Islands are a beautiful cruising destination. Here you can find relaxation and tranquility after the hustle and bustle of the city. Old fortified towers, churches and monasteries in quaint villages bear witness to settlement in ancient and medieval times. Of the 13 islands, only the three largest are inhabited today: Koločep, Lopud and Šipan. The islands are forested, partly with pine trees, partly with olive groves or even citrus trees. There are many opportunities for hiking, diving and swimming.

The island of Mljet, which lies to the southwest, is also extremely green. Once a notorious pirate's nest, Mljet is now (in the west) a national park. From the two ports of Polace - also one of the island's oldest settlements, dating back to the 1st century - and Pomena, you can explore the extensive forests and visit the island's two salt lakes. Of course, the beaches are also recommended for a swim stop. If you want to sail to the mountainous island of Lastovo afterwards, you can head for the two bays of Veli Lago and Mali Lago. The small island and the islets surrounding it were declared a nature park a few years ago and are worth a visit due to many beautiful bays.

The northern coast of the green island of Korčula is quite flat. Here lies the much visited picturesque old town of Korčula. Probably the most famous son of the city is the adventurer Marco Polo. His birthplace can be visited. The south coast, on the other hand, is steep in parts, and you can safely lie here in the town of Vela Luka, which was built in the largest and best-protected bay. Recommended are excursions to the surroundings of the town, which is characterized by typical Mediterranean vegetation with dense mixed forests of pine and oak trees, olive and fig trees, vine and citrus fruits. Also famous is the large cave Vela Spila, where people lived more than 10,000 years ago. The clear sea in the bay with mostly very pleasant water temperature also invites for swimming and snorkeling.

Towards the north it is also not far to central Dalmatia with the cities of Trogir and Split.
