The island of Antigua belongs to the Leeward Islands and the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. Together with its neighboring island to the north, Barbuda, it forms an independent state within the Commonwealth, Antigua and Barbuda. To enter the country, German citizens need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond their trip, as well as onward or return tickets. No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days. Further and current information can be found on the website of the German Foreign Office.
The national language is English, but there is also a creole language based on English. The currency is the East Caribbean dollar.

The island is located in a zone that is often hit by hurricanes, and requires experience and caution from sailors, especially during hurricane season. Otherwise, the two islands offer ideal wind and weather conditions. Watch out for shoals around the islands, however; experience in eyeball navigation is helpful.

Travel, activities and discoveries for your yacht charter vacation

There are direct flights to Antigua from Frankfurt, Germany, and the flight time is approximately 10 hours. The journey takes place via the international airport in the northeast of the island, not far from Saint John's, the capital. In the city you can indulge in duty-free shopping and in the evening plunge into the nightlife in bars and restaurants.

In the modern Jolly Harbour in the west of the island you can start your yacht charter vacation with us. In Jolly Harbour lots of interesting sights inside and outside of the Marina attract yacht charter tourists. In the south of the island lots of interesting sights inside and outside of the Marina attract yacht charter tourists.

There is no lack of untouched nature on the island - whether in the rainforest on land or in the coral reefs on the coast. The Cades Reef in the southwest of the island is a great address for snorkelers, and divers not only get to see animals in front of their goggles, but can also discover old shipwrecks. The locals call the island "Land of 365 Beaches" and so it's great for sailors to stroll from bay to bay and make themselves comfortable every day at a new spot with turquoise blue water - the multitude of moorings makes this possible and easy.

On land, too, there is much worth seeing for yacht charterers, such as the natural monument Devil's Bridge in the east of the island. Here the force of the Atlantic has formed arches in the limestone rocks and created a special coastline. You can learn about the colonial past at the 17th century sugar cane plantation Betty's Hope or take a look at the Victorian buildings in Saint John's.

If you prefer a more secluded yacht charter vacation, you should sail further to the neighboring island of Barbuda. A good jumping off point for this is Jolly Harbour in the west of Antigua. But for your trip you should make sure to bring plenty of provisions, including water. The rewards are deserted white beaches and very good diving and snorkeling in the offshore reefs.

In April, the annual Antigua Sailing Week takes place, an international Caribbean regatta where different races are held every day for a week, such as from Guadeloupe to English Harbour or around Antigua.
