Cuba captivates with its unique charm and an exciting mix of Spanish, Caribbean and African influences. Here, you can enjoy a Cuba Libre at sunset on uninhabited cayos, relax on beautiful beaches or aboard a catamaran and explore one of the most diverse diving areas in the world. In addition, unlike other Caribbean islands, Cuba still offers relative exclusivity. Outside the few marinas, you rarely encounter other yachts. More often, fishermen approach the boat to supply the passengers with fish or lobster. Cuba's location between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea creates diverse sailing areas, making the island a unique experience for both beginners and experienced Caribbean sailors. The base on the island is Cienfuegos, located on the southern side of the island.

Climate: tropical with temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees
Winds: northeast trade
Sailing season: all year round with attention to the hurricane season from June to November

Havana - with a yacht charter Cuba on a journey through time

From some German cities like Cologne, Frankfurt, Hannover and Munich you can fly directly to Havana . When you land here, be sure to take a look at the capital. Contrasts meet in the largest city in the Caribbean. The old town from the colonial era is very well preserved and on a walk through the city you will encounter buildings and houses from different eras. Together with the old-timers, they transport you to another time. The capital is bustling with activity, offering everything that other larger cities offer. If you are interested in the two most famous products of Cuba, you can also visit a cigar factory or rum distillery and take a guided tour.

From Cienfuegos to islands with great beaches, diving and snorkeling spots.

From Havana, it takes about three hours by transfer to the marina in Cienfuegos on the south side of the island. Here it is more quiet. So you can already enjoy the beach and the palm trees and be enchanted by the beautiful architecture of the town, because not for nothing it is also called "the pearl of the south".

Yacht charter holidaymakers can quickly reach the idyllic offshore islands in the south of Cuba, the Cayos, from here. On a trip to the west one comes across the Canarreos archipelago. The 350 associated islands are formed from coral reefs and are a great destination for divers. Cayo Largo, the second largest island after Isla de la Juventud, is the diving center of Cuba and also invites to snorkeling due to its crystal clear water. Sun worshippers will find white fine sandy beaches here. To the main island of the archipelago, Isla de la Juventud, it is about 130 nautical miles.
The second largest coral reef in the world stretches to the west to Maria la Gorda, which then extends to the coast of Belize. After the dive, you can relax on the beach under palm trees.

At Playa Larga and Playa Girón, divers can dive down into cenotes, freshwater caves in an underground tunnel system. For those interested in history, there is a museum at Playa Girón that provides information about the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion.

Towards the southeast lies another highlight for divers: the archipelago Jardines de la Reina. The "Gardens of the Queen" comprise 250 islands with mangrove trees and gather a diverse fauna. Here divers also have the opportunity to observe various species of sharks.

Other exciting cities in Cuba

East of Cienfuegos, a side trip to the world heritage city of Trinidad is worthwhile. The palaces and villas of the former sugar barons are located here and give an idea of the splendor of bygone times. This was also made possible by the slaves who worked on the plantations. In the sugar cane valley Valle de los Ingenios you can learn about the eventful history and visit one of the largest plantations of that time.

If you drive to the southeast side, you should make a stop in the former capital Santiago de Cuba. The city is located in a beautiful bay and is the cradle of Son, a style of music made famous worldwide by the Buena Vista Social Club. If you are here at the time of Carnival, you should not miss the festivities. You can take a walk through the beautiful waterfront Boulevard Alameda or visit the Moncada Barracks and the Plaza de la Revolucíon, they are among the historical highlights. Of course, you should not forget the rum in Cuba. From Santiago de Cuba comes for example the world famous Bacardi rum.
