In Mecklenburg Bay nature has been kind to sailors: beautiful landscapes, magnificent beaches and many naturally sheltered harbors alternate along this part of the Baltic Sea.

The Mecklenburg Bay begins with the island of Fehmarn, which as a geographical umbrella term also includes the Bay of Lübeck and the Bay of Wismar. You can also start directly from the island in Burgtiefe - this is excellent for trips to Denmark.

On the coast near Fehmarn, Großenbrode offers an extensive leisure program, such as the white giant, the largest Ferris wheel on the North Sea and Baltic Sea coast at 50 meters, or the newly designed beach promenade with a top-class pirate adventure playground. Other places along the Bay of Lübeck include Timmendorfer Strand and the Baltic resort of Boltenhagen, all familiar-sounding places with a long history and bathing culture.

With the Mecklenburg Bay a varied and entertaining area lies ahead of you. A yacht charter here is also ideal for sailing novices and families looking for a relaxing vacation.

Getting there: The region is well connected to the German highway network and as a well-known tourist region, the railroad line network is also well developed here. Even by plane, you could travel to the region via the regional airports in Lübeck and Barth.

On the coast from Fehmarn southwest are the seaside resorts of Großenbrode, Dahme, Kellenhusen and Grömitz. As one of the oldest seaside resorts of the Baltic Sea, Grömitz knows how to combine entertainment and recreation with its wide range of offers: on the beach, sports facilities attract visitors and countless beach chairs invite them to linger. The beach promenade leads past cafés and restaurants to the pier.

If you find it too busy here, you can sail on to Neustadt in Holstein. Several marinas and moorings can be found in the old trading town. A narrow access connects the sea with the Neustadt inland water, a nature reserve rich in species with salt marshes where several bird species breed. From here, you can take a trip to the Plön Lakes before continuing along the endless beaches of the Bay of Lübeck to Travemünde.

Several routes of international ferry traffic converge at the mouth of Travemünde, so care should be taken when entering. There are various mooring options, but it is especially nice to moor right in the Passat Harbor and visit the namesake four-masted barque Passat, a Travemünde landmark. From here you can watch the hustle and bustle on the water or take the ferry to the promenade.

If you would like to follow the Trave with your yacht to Lübeck, a particularly beautiful, green section with several bays awaits you until you reach the Hanseatic city, which is well worth seeing. East of the Bay of Lübeck, the smaller Boltenhagen Bay with the seaside resort of the same name follows. In addition to the kilometer-long sandy beach, there is also a piece of steep coast here, which allows a beautiful view over the bay. Moreover, a large and comfortable yacht charter marina has been established here several years ago.

This is followed to the east by Wismar Bay, a diverse marine habitat with the old trading town at its center. Wismar is another yacht charter harbor, which is worth seeing because of its old gabled houses. Wismar is protected by the island of Pöhl and still today it is an important harbor. The island is also worth a visit because of its beautiful natural beaches.

A bit further east lies the large seaside resort of Kühlungsborn. The yacht harbor with its versatile offer has developed here to a point of attraction for sailors and non-sailors. The white Baltic Sea beach begins directly at the harbor and stretches seemingly endlessly in both directions.

By the well-known lighthouse of Warnemünde one can recognize from afar the easternmost yacht charter port of departure in Mecklenburg Bay. In Rostock's harbor Warnemuende dock today not only many sailing yachts but also more and more cruise ships. From the marina Hohe Düne you can admire the sights of the big ships and ferries entering and leaving the port. From Warnemünde you can also easily reach the Danish port of Gedser, for example - or you can sail further east to Darß, Zingst and Rügen.

If you prefer it a little warmer, you will find just as varied and suitable for sailors of all experience levels and passions in Croatia. Feel free to have a look at our blog. There you will find a short introduction to some of the most popular spots in Croatia.
