Yacht charter Rügen
In addition to its 60 kilometers of fine sandy beaches, beautiful avenues and the famous seaside resort architecture, Rügen also offers large national parks that invite you to go hiking. From the water the coastal landscapes of the island such as the cliffs at Cape Arkona with its lighthouses, the chalk cliffs of Jasmund, the beach promenades and the Sellin pier are even more impressive than from land. You can start from Breege in the north of the island.
The area is suitable for all sailing levels. Although there are challenging sections, with narrow channels and the strong winds that occur in the Baltic Sea from time to time, the short distances between the individual destinations make the area easy to plan and manage, even for less experienced sailors. Especially the Bodden offers the possibility to sail in a protected area with many worthwhile destinations.
How to get there: You can generally reach the island via the Baltic Sea freeway A20. The island is connected to the mainland via the Rügen Bridge and the Rügen Dam. Both lead across the Strelasund and are very busy during the summer months. The Rügen Bridge is also open several times a day for ships, so you have to expect waiting times here. In order to relieve these two access routes, a car ferry also operates between Strahlbrode and Glewitz. If you want to arrive without a car, you have the possibility to use the train service from many German cities, which also uses the Rügen Dam.
The landmark of Rügen - the chalk cliffs
Jasmund National Park in the northeast of the island is the smallest national park in Germany and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. At the Königsstuhl National Park Center in Sassnitz, you can learn interesting facts about the formation of the famous chalk rock formations. This is also where the Königsweg starts - a hiking trail to experience the nature around the chalk cliffs. It is also worth going to the viewing platform of the Königsstuhl. But don't miss the view from the water either, especially the Victoria Rocks and the Königsstuhl are best seen from here in their bright white, surrounded by the lush green of the vegetation.
Cape Arkona is one of the sunniest places in Germany and the Schinkel Tower, one of the three lighthouses at the cape, is the second oldest in the country. Experience the cape from land or sail around it on your yacht charter Rügen.
Yacht charter Rügen - The Bodden beckons in the south
You can also explore the southeastern part of the island of Rügen and its Bodden waters, for example from Greifswald. From here it is about 15 nautical miles to Lauterbach. The harbor and the offshore island of Vilm lie in the Rügen Bodden, which is enclosed to the west and east by the two peninsulas of Zudar and Mönchgut. From Lauterbach, the classicistic Putbus with its city park and the seaside resort of Prora offer excursion destinations that are as rich in contrast as they are interesting for those interested in history and architecture. The Mönchgut peninsula is ideal for extended bicycle tours. It can be reached more comfortably by the "Rasender Roland", the historic small train that shuttles between Lauterbach and Göhren.
Rügen, Germany's largest island, offers diversity and variety in every respect. Sailors can expect the scenic Bodden coast with many small and larger anchorages and marinas, often located in idyllic bays. Larger harbors like Lauterbach offer all comforts and still have the typical charm of Rügen. From here you can explore the island during your yacht charter or set off for a trip into the Baltic Sea to reach destinations like the Danish South Sea, the Swedish South Coast, Bornholm or Usedom.
Polish coast or Danish South Sea - the agony of choice from Breege
In the north of the island lies Breege. Settled since Slavic times and associated with seafaring over the centuries, as evidenced by several captain's houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, the town with its harbor offers a good starting point for your sailing trip. From Breege you can quickly reach the protected Jasmund Bodden or the island of Hiddensee, where a car-free nature experience and long sandy beaches await the visitor. A little further west is the 45 km long peninsula Fischland-Darß-Zingst.
Around Rügen - A voyage of discovery between high seas and shallow Bodden
Start your trip around Rügen in Breege and explore the area around the island by determining your route according to the prevailing wind conditions. We assume that winds from the northwest will prevail and start from Breege towards Sassnitz to sail around the island from west to east.
In Binz you can drift along the long beach promenade and enjoy the flair of the popular Baltic resort. In Selin, a quiet natural landscape awaits you, surrounded by small bays that invite you to explore. Around the peninsula Mönchgut is a popular sailing area, where you say goodbye to the open Baltic Sea and turn into the Greifswalder Bodden.
Stay overnight in Lauterbach, where you have access to a top equipped marina. Take an unusual excursion on the Rasenden Roland, a historic narrow-gauge railroad with a steam locomotive. Heading north of the island, you will return through the Strelasund and the Westrügen Bodden. With Stralsund as your destination on the mainland, don't miss a stroll through the historic old town here. On the following day, relax on a day trip to the car-free island of Hiddensee, which has beautiful beaches and unspoiled nature.
Finally, reach Breege again past Cape Arkona in a relaxing blow. However, make sure you check the weather conditions before going around the cape, as it can get more sporty in unfavorable conditions. Prepare for a trip full of adventure and discovery!
Breege is suitable both for a start to circumnavigate the island and if you are drawn further out. For example, a trip to the Polish port city of Swinoujscie and a visit to the local fishing museum or a stroll through the spa gardens. With a travel duration of one week a cruise from Breege via Swinemünde and Stralsund is well feasible.
Also further north to Denmark you can turn on your yacht charter Rügen from Breege. Passing Vordingborg with its beautiful old town and the quiet vacation island Femö the start from Breege offers you a pleasant one week cruise along the Danish coast. Also good to sail in a week is the route Breege Copenhagen. Combine sailing vacations with a visit to the Danish capital overlooking Malmö.
