Yacht charter Airlie Beach

Your yacht charter Airlie Beach takes you to the east coast of Australia in the state of Queensland. The small town is located in Pioneer Bay and is the gateway to the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef. White beaches, pleasant tropical climate and turquoise blue sea are waiting for you right at your arrival. Unfortunately, swimming on the beaches of Airlie Beach is only allowed with wetsuits due to an extremely poisonous jellyfish species that occurs here. However, the Airlie Beach Lagoon offers a free alternative, which compensates for the lack of swimming fun in the open sea. Bordered by green hills, there is a deep swimming area, a non-swimmer area and a baby pool. Sandy beach and palm trees offer real beach feeling.

The starting point is the Coral Sea Marina, which has been named Australia's best marina two times in a row.

Snorkeling trips to secluded bays or hikes through wild rainforest

There are many destinations on your yacht charter Airlie Beach. A must is of course a trip to Whitehaven Beach. However, as the entire island is protected, you will need a permit to visit. It is best to anchor late in the afternoon when the day trippers are slowly leaving. While walking along the bright white beach, you may even spot reef sharks and stingrays in the clear shallow water. From the vantage point of Hill Inlet, which is within easy reach of Whitehaven Beach, you can take in the beauty and spectacular color play of the pure white beach with the varied blue tones of the sea. The intense white of the 7 km long beach is due to the high quartz content in the sand.

If you travel from June to October, you may even encounter humpback whales here, which come to the Whitsundays area to calve. From Airlie Beach via South Molle Island with its enchanting, secluded beaches, you can continue on to Daydream Island, for example, where you can enjoy a relaxing spa day at the resort's spa, or get up close to the reef's wildlife at the "Livig Reef Aquarium".

For those who also like to explore nature outside the water, there are well-marked hiking trails on many of the islands. For example, Langford Island is only 15 nautical miles from Airlie Beach. The island is rather small, but offers with a southeast reaching about 1 km long and only a few meters wide sandy headland, which lies at high tide just below the water surface, a walk to let your soul dangle. A signposted hiking trail leads to the island itself from the beach. But not only here you can experience the beautiful nature on foot. On Hook Island, a hiking route for all fitness levels starts in the Nara Inlet, a deeply cut bay, up to a cave in which about 2000 years old rock paintings of the Ngaro Aborigines can be seen. Information panels along the route explain the history of the Ngaro.

On Long Island, not far from Airlie Beach, there are 20km of well-developed hiking trails, such as the Long Island Circuit, a forest trail around the northern tip of the island, which provides great views of Happy Bay, where you can also SUP or kayak very well.

Experience the magic of the Great Barrier Reef

Around the Whitsunday Islands are countless coral reefs and only 30 nautical miles away is the largest coral reef in the world, the Great Barrier Reef. This complex ecosystem, protected since 1975 and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981, needs special protection. Human impact and the more frequent occurrence of cyclones have caused major destruction in many areas of the reef. However, there are still many coral reefs to be discovered and diving and snorkeling are still allowed. However, to preserve the uniqueness of the coral reefs off the Whitsundays, there are regulations for certain islands and areas. They can only be visited with special permits or with a guide. Information on this and a mobile map app is available on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority site.

In addition to the solitude and Robinsonian feeling that many of the uninhabited islands offer on your Airlie Beach yacht charter, there's plenty more to entice you in terms of things to do. Cuddle with koalas at Hamilton Island Wildlife Park on the island of the same name. Add some action to your day and rent a jet ski at the aforementioned Daydream Island Resort, or book a Whitsunday Crocodile Safari from Airlie Beach and experience saltwater crocodiles in their natural habitat.

Due to the protected location which emanates from the Great Barrier Reef, a yacht charter Airlie Beach is a relaxing experience even for not so experienced sailors and families. Favorable wind conditions and all year round pleasant temperatures invite to an extended cruise in a fantastic scenery. Only from January to April cyclones can occur in the area. All in all the Whitsundays with 74 islands, of which only 17 are inhabited, offer excellent conditions for your sailing vacation.

Alternatively, you can depart from Shute Harbour, which is only fifteen minutes away.
