The South Pacific, also called the South Seas, summarizes the island groups scattered in the vast area south of the equator and between the west coast of South America and the east coast of Australia. These include Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia. Most of these islands first became known through the voyages of discovery of the famous James Cook. Those who prefer to stay in the northern hemisphere, but are looking for conditions similar to those in the South Pacific, will find what they are looking for in Mexico. Especially for divers and snorkelers the Gulf of California is an exciting area, because here you can meet shoals of tropical fish as well as large fish and mammals such as manta rays, various whale species, whale sharks and hammerheads. Jacques Cousteau did not call it "the aquarium of the world" for nothing. Various dive centers on site rent equipment and organize dives, including to the nearby Socorro archipelago. Those who travel south from the base of La Paz will reach the tourist centers of the peninsula, where the supply structure is more abundant. Individual travelers heading north will find tranquility and the landscape that is special to Mexico, characterized by desert and low vegetation with various types of cacti. The Gulf of California also offers less experienced sailors the possibility to start a vacation trip. Towards the south, in the Pacific Ocean, experienced sailors can plan blue water trips.
