The second largest city in France can be reached by direct flights from Germany. The airport is located about 20 kilometers outside and is well connected by public transport. If you have time for the city as well, take a walk at the Vieux Port, which has existed since ancient times. Today, it is a marina and the factory buildings are listed as historic monuments. From here it is worth visiting the oldest quarter of the city, Le Panier. Here you can be guided by the small streets, architecture, boutiques, cafes or graffiti art. Here is also located an important building of the city, the Cathédrale de Major with its black and white striped facade.

The Gulf of Lion is stormy and therefore rather suitable for experienced sailors. In spring and autumn the winds are at their strongest. At Quai de la Lave, Port de Corbières, lies our base. From here, for example, a trip to the east is possible. Not far from the big city you unexpectedly come across a natural highlight, because on the way to Cassis lies the Parc National des Calanque. The scenic coastline is characterized by steep, green limestone walls with fjords winding through them. The small bays with turquoise waters are ideal for kayaking, swimming and relaxing. You can also experience the special flora and fauna of this area on hikes and visit rock paintings in the Henry Cosquer Cave. The landscape also offers opportunities for climbing. Further to the east, you will come to the Hyères Islands. They are part of the Moorish massif that juts out of the sea, and are protected. On the largest of the islands, Île de Porquerolles, you will find beautiful sandy beaches for swimming in the north, such as at Plage de la Courtade. Port-Cros is an attractive destination for hikers.
To the west of Marseille stretches the Camargue nature reserve with its marshlands, vast pastures and salt ponds. If not on foot, you can also experience the area on the back of the Camargue horses that live there or by mountain bike. In addition to bulls and horses, many species of water birds live here and especially the flocks of pink flamingos that come here to find their food offer a beautiful spectacle. In the fishing village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer you can taste the local specialties and buy typical products at the weekly market, such as salt extracted here and Camargue rice. The town also offers shallow sandy beaches for swimming.
A yacht charter Marseille can also take you eastward to the Côte d'Azur, Saint-Tropez, Sainte-Maxime or Cannes. Or you can continue exploring the Gulf of Lion towards Montpellier and Perpignan.
