A yacht charter Skopelos will take you to the islands of the Northern Sporades. Skopelos is the second largest island of the popular archipelago. From the north of the island it is not far to the neighboring island Skiathos and also the other islands of the Northern Sporades are only short strokes apart. Overall, the area is rather small, but not so crowded and characterized by consistent wind conditions and a variety of beautiful anchorages. A special plus is that in summer you can sail protected from the Meltemi by the large islands. Skiathos is the most touristically developed island of the northern Sporades. Pelagonisi, is uninhabited except for a monk who inhabits a monastery in the north of the island and from Alonnisos begins the "Marine National Park Northern Sporades" to protect the monk seals. In this rather quiet area, nature lovers and those seeking peace and quiet will find a veritable potpourri of bays around the islands.

Yacht charter Skopelos
The island of Skopelos is often called an insider tip among the Greek islands. It is actually less developed for tourism than, for example, the neighboring island of Skiathos. The island is especially known and loved by the Greeks themselves as a vacation island. Nevertheless, some of the places on the island might seem familiar to you. Skopelos was the main filming location for the movie "Mamma Mia" from 2008. Characteristic for the island are its dreamlike beaches with crystal clear water and beautiful hiking routes through the island's interior.
How to get there: From Germany you can reach the island via Athens and partly also directly by plane. You land at Alexandros Papadiamantis airport, which is only two kilometers from the main town and port. The port of Loutraki on Skopelos, often referred to as "Glossa" (this is the main town not far from the port on Skopelos) can be reached from here by ferry.
From Skopelos on a voyage of discovery: The diversity of the Northern Sporades
From Skopelos you can quickly reach the island of Skiathos. Skiathos, with its many restaurants and bars, offers probably the best possibilities in the area to go on a night out. The island of Alonnisos offers the exact contrast. Only about 2000 people live on the island and with a variety of beaches and the green inland, the island offers a relaxing excursion program for nature lovers, bathing enthusiasts and active vacationers alike. On the eastern side of the island, directly opposite the coastline of Peristera, an underwater museum for divers has been established since 2020. During the summer months, visitors can take guided tours to a shipwreck lying at a depth of 25 to 30 meters, which sank here around 425 BC.
Skyros is the largest island of the Northern Sporades and home to the so-called Skyros ponies. These ponies, barely 1 meter in size, are found only here on the island. In the past, the wild ponies were used by farmers for labor. Today there are just over 100 of this endemic breed left and they are protected.
Discover the different islands of the northern Sporades during a one-week cruise from Skopelos and find your personal favorite island. If you have more than a week, you can extend your cruise to the Gulf of Volos (Pagasitic Gulf) and visit Volos, the former city of the Argonauts at the foot of Mount Pelion. Volos also has an airport and is also one of our charter bases, you can also start your cruise here. Information about the other islands around the Northern Sporades can be found on our corresponding area page.
