Yacht charter Ragusa

The city of Ragusa in southeastern Sicily is located somewhat inland, but the coastal town of Marina di Ragusa, 25 km away, belongs to it and has a marina since 2006. If you plan your cruise from here, however, you should also make a day trip to the city. It is characterized by an earthquake in 1693 and consists of two parts, which have quite different character. The medieval part, Ragusa Ibla, is located in the east of the city. It was rebuilt after the earthquake but still has the old structure with small alleys. From the Giardino Ibleo here you have a beautiful view. The new part Ragusa superiore was built after the quake and is characterized by wide squares and streets and architecture in the style of late Baroque. Because of this, the city was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List along with several other cities in Val di Noto that were also built in the Sicilian Baroque style.

The south of Sicily was subject to very different influences in the past, which can still be seen and felt today. Both Romans, Greeks and Arabs have left their traces in the architecture and culture. The coast is dotted with idyllic villages, such as Marzamemi, founded by the Arabs, and towns steeped in history, such as Syracuse. Scenically, rugged rocky landscapes formed by volcanic activity alternate with fine sandy beach coves.
About 10 hours south of Ragusa lies the island nation of Malta. Besides the main island, a few smaller inhabited and uninhabited islands such as Gonzo and Comino also belong to the republic. The capital Valetta is also part of the world cultural heritage. It is located on a headland and is surrounded by two natural harbors. Other places worth seeing include Mgarr with the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, the temple complexes of Ggantija on Gonzo and Mnjadra or the Hypogeum and the catacomb complexes. The coast of Malta is rather rocky with small bays in the south and flatter with sandy beaches in the north. The bays Mgarr ix-Xini, St. Paul's Bay and Marsaxlock Bay are suitable for swimming. Especially the rocky coast holds interesting formations and coastal landscapes, which can be easily seen from the water, for example in Dwerja Bay on Gonzo the Fungus Rock, the Blue Hole or the Azure Window.
