Yacht charter Lagos
In 2019 Marina de Lagos celebrated its 25th anniversary. Over time, the marina has transformed from a launching point for Atlantic crossers heading to the Canary Islands and from there on to the Caribbean and Central America to a popular marina for charter vacations. In recent years, much has been done to develop the Algarve for recreational sailors. Lagos stands out in particular. The marina has everything needed for a carefree start in the direction of west or east. The town itself is also worth a visit. From the harbor, you can walk to Meia Praia, a stretch of gently curved beach over 4 km long with golden sand. Behind the beach rises a dune, over which a wooden path leads, and throughout the section you will find small beach bars and cafes. Children can frolic here. In the middle, the beach is interrupted by the entrance to the Alvor lagoon. This nature reserve serves as a protected retreat for several species of plants, birds and insects. The lagoon is also a popular spot for kitesurfers. The beaches Praia Dona Ana and Praia do Camila show the typical face of the Algarve: fine sandy beach in a small bay surrounded by imposing rock formations overlooking crystal clear water.
If you have enough of the beach and the sea, stroll through the town and discover in the winding little streets again and again houses that are covered with the typical azulejos (colorful ceramic tiles). The floor is often artfully laid with black and white paving stones (Calçada Portuguesa). Although the city was severely destroyed in 1755 by an earthquake followed by a tidal wave, much old building fabric is still preserved thanks to loving restoration work. In the old town there are many restaurants, bars and cafes that invite you to take a break. Culinary the Algarve has some delicacies to offer. Try the national dish of Portugal stockfish (Bacalhau) or the famous duck mussels (Perceves).
A highlight is the Ponta da Piedade. Water, wind and erosion have painstakingly created a unique grotto landscape here on the rocky coast off Lagos. Bizarre rock formations form arches, small caves can be discovered again and again. This work of art of nature can be admired from the land and also from the water and you should not miss this sight.

If you are looking for a more challenging cruise on your yacht charter Lagos, head west towards the Cape of Sao Vicente, the most southwesterly point in Europe. Halfway there is Praia da Salema, a former fishing beach with a wide, gently sloping white sand beach. This beach is very popular with families and is often described as one of the most beautiful in the Algarve. Shortly after you reach Sagres. If you want to round the cape and sail up the Western Algarve, this is the last port and anchorage before reaching Siles, 65 nautical miles away. Sagres is surrounded by the rugged beauty of the sheer cliffs, along which you then reach the Cape of Sao Vicente. Here, 70 meters above sea level, a lighthouse keeps watch, which is said to have the strongest beacon in Europe. Below the cape is Praia do Beliche, accessible via a wooden staircase. A natural beach, which is especially popular with surfers. Now there are about 60 nautical miles of rocky coastline to Sines. The coast opens again and again into small bays, whose beaches are especially popular with surfers. The swell is stronger here than on the south coast and the west wind can also be a problem.
Heading east for a beach holiday
Not so experienced sailors and families can enjoy an eventful vacation on a yacht charter Lagos in east direction. A day trip from Lagos, passing Portimão, lies Faro, the border point between the so-called rocky Algarve in the west and the sandy Algarve in the east. Here you can anchor in the lagoon in front of the island of Culatra or sail through the lagoon to Faro Marina. It is best to sail into the lagoon near high or low tide, as turbulence can form when the tide changes. From Faro it is a scant 35 nautical miles past shallow sandy beaches to the mouth of the Guadiana River, which is the border between Spain and Portugal. The river itself is navigable by yachts and offers a nice change to sailing on the sea.
