Yacht charter Patras

With a yacht charter Patras you start your sailing trip in the north of the Peleponnes in the Gulf of Patras, not far from the Gulf of Corinth. The sailing area is sheltered so that especially families and sailing beginners can enjoy their time here. Nevertheless, there is no lack of attractions. The city of Patras itself as a starting port offers all the amenities you need for a carefree start to your vacation. Patras can be easily reached via the airport in Araxos, 40 kilometers away. Once in the city, a stroll through the city center is worthwhile. Patras is a student city and in countless cafes and bars you can shake off the stress of everyday life before starting your vacation. Worth a visit is the church Agios Andreas not far from the harbor at the same height of the lighthouse, the landmark of Patras. This neo-Byzantine church is one of the largest Greek Orthodox buildings in Greece and impresses with its high dome decorated with paintings. Those interested in history will find a good and clear introduction to the history of the city and the country in the modern archaeological museum of the city, with pieces well prepared for the visitor. The Rio Andirrio Bridge, which bridges the 2.5 kilometer wide isthmus between the Peleponnes and the Greek mainland only a few kilometers from the lighthouse to the northeast, is an architectural masterpiece and an impressive sight to boot. Especially at night, when the bridge is illuminated in blue, it exudes a special magic. To cross the bridge, you must first obtain a permit from Rion Traffic. The best place to find out about the conditions is at the marina in Patras.

History up close in the Gulf of Corinth

The Gulf of Corinth is a particularly quiet spot for a sailing vacation, but by no means boring. Especially sailing novices have here the peace and quiet to get into sailing. Families will find enough resting places with varied programs in the small fishing villages and quiet bays, all just a short stroke apart. In Galaxidi, in the north of the gulf, a visit to the nautical/archaeological museum is worthwhile. Exhibits from the heyday of the former shipping center offer a good introduction to the history of the city and the country. On the southern coast of the gulf, located on the Peloponnese, you will find enough space for extensive castle building and swimming fun with the almost 1.5 kilometer long sandy beach between the towns of Longos and Selianitika. If you are looking for peace and quiet, you will find it especially in the north of the gulf. Between Itea and Corinth there are always small bays for an undisturbed stop. Before leaving Itea, it is worthwhile to make an excursion to Delphi. From Itea, whose district Kirra was the ancient port of Delphi, it is only 15 kilometers to the former seat of the oracle. If you have already arrived in antiquity with a visit to the same, a stop in Corinth must not be missed. The antique trade metropolis received special meaning in its time, since here the only 6.4 kilometers wide isthmus between the gulf of Korinth and the Saronic gulf was made surmountable with the help of a ship cart way (Diolkos) for ships. Then, at the end of the 19th century, with the construction of the Corinth Canal, a route saving of about 400 kilometers around the Peleponnes was also created for modern shipping. The use of the canal is subject to a fee and not cheap, but it is an extremely exciting passage that you will not experience on every cruise. So why not link up your yacht charter Patras with a trip to Athens, Lavrion or the Cyclades.

Dream islands in the Ionian Sea

From Patras in west direction you will pass the lagoon town Missolonghi and reach the Ionian Sea. The island of Kefalonia is quickly reached and offers with the ports Argostolion in the west and Sami in the east two relaxed mooring possibilities. But around the coast of the island there are also many small fishing villages and lonely bays, which promise pleasant hours on the yacht. Assos in the northwest of the island with its Venetian flair is one of the most beautiful places on the island. The beach Paralia Myrtos, a few bays further west, is one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece with its brilliant white sand and the water shimmering in various shades of turquoise. Turning south, Zakynthos is the southernmost of the Ionian Islands. The flower of the east, as the island is also called, captivates by its flower splendor. Especially between March and June, the many wild flowers and herbs transform the island into a true Eldorado for flower lovers. Further south along the west coast of the Peloponnese, a barren and rough face of the Greek coast is revealed. However, this region is not too crowded even in summer and the search for secluded bays will not remain unrewarded for long.
