Sami is located on the east coast of the island of Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea. The island has its own airport, about 20 kilometers from Sami. The harbor promenade is lined with palm trees and cafes, restaurants and bars invite you to stay. You can visit the ruins of the ancient port and city and snorkel the now submerged former military port. Relaxing, snorkeling and water sports can be done at Antisamos Beach east of the city. From the nearby Agrillion Monastery you have a good view all the way to Ithaca.

A highlight near the city are the Melissani caves and the underground lake of the same name, which can be explored by boat tour. Also, the large Drogarati stalactite caves, where many stalactites and stalagmites have been formed in the cave hall. If you take a cruise around the island, in the north you will find the picturesque fishing village of Fiskardo, which was spared from the 1953 earthquake, and the popular Myrtos Beach. From the viewpoint you have a great view over the bay. The port of Assos in the northwest is also worth seeing, as well as the fortress of Erisos, to which you can hike. From here you can easily reach the neighboring island of Ithaca. The green island is home to Odysseus, and scores with beautiful harbors, such as Frikes in the north or Kioni in the south. Here is also in a deeply cut bay the main port Vathi. North of Ithaka is the island of Lefkada, south is Zakynthos.
