Yacht charter Perigiali

The small town of Perigiali is located on the west coast of the island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea. One can easily reach the base from the airport Preveza/Aktio. It is about 35 kilometers away and a transfer to the base can be booked upon request. In the small village, not far from the marina, there is a small supermarket where you can get the basics for the start of your sailing vacation. Not far from Perigiali and within walking distance is the much visited town of Nydri. Here you can stroll along the busy main street and immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of tourist life: The choice of tavernas, small bars, souvenir stores and cafes is large. Parallel to the main street runs the harbor mile, where you can also enjoy a good meal with a view over the sea towards the Geni peninsula, which forms the bay of Nydri. Families will find shallow sea and many small trees offering shade at the small beach of Desimi. Leaving behind the two main centers of the city and turning towards the hinterland, one strolls through small alleys and experiences a more pristine Greece. About 5 kilometers behind the city and easily accessible on foot is a small waterfall in the gorge of Dimossari. Here a hike along lemon and olive groves is worthwhile, because thanks to numerous rainfalls there is lush vegetation in this region even in summer. The island of Lefkada offers several beautiful beaches along its coast. Most of them are located on the west coast.

Especially for families, the sailing area in the Ionian Sea is a great destination for a sailing trip. Both the big ones and the little ones will get their money's worth. The wind conditions are reliable, but no strong winds are to be expected. The Meltemi rages around the Cyclades and the Ionian Sea is shielded from it. Moreover, the sailing area can be explored in short stages. Islands, harbors and anchorages are usually not far from each other.

Quiet sailing around the southern Ionian Islands

Not far from Perigiali you already meet another small island, Meganisi. The coastline of the island is fjord-like and rugged. In the north, in a deep bay, lies the small village of Vathy.

It offers several good tavernas near the harbor, where you can enjoy an ouzo overlooking the bay and strike up a conversation with the locals. Around the island you can find small bays

and beautiful beaches, for example the popular Agios Ioannis beach overlooking the coast of Lefkada. Although sandy beaches are rare on the island, the pebbly beaches mean that the water around the island is crystal clear and ideal for snorkeling. In the south of the island a long headland stretches into the sea. On its west coast are several caves that are accessible from the water. One of the largest is the Papanikolis Cave. It is almost 30 meters long and at its end there is a small sandy beach.

The small island of Kalamos is a little developed vacation destination among the Ionian islands. Here you can still find untouched nature and small, little visited beaches. Dive into the azure waters off the coast and swim, snorkel or dive with dolphins and turtles, which feel particularly at home here. Directly southeast is Kastos, also a small island hardly developed for tourism. In the east of the island there is a small harbor and the only settlement of the island. Here you can enjoy a coffee ashore in one of the quaint cafes before heading to a quiet anchorage for a swim.
Around the privately owned small rocky island of Atokos, you'll find several small anchorages with pretty beaches for a little stopover before reaching Ithaca and behind it Kefalonia. Both islands are quiet and relaxing vacation destinations. On Ithaca, stroll through the main town of Vathi, take a break in one of the cozy cafes and watch the hustle and bustle in the small alleys. If you feel like hiking, you can walk to the Kathara Monastery and enjoy the view and tranquility at this spiritual place founded in 1703.

On Kathara it is worth visiting the Melissani Cave, not far from the village of Sami on the east coast. In the stalactite cave there is a lake 160 meters long and 45 meters wide. Short tours by rowing boat are offered, especially at noon, when the sunlight shines through a hole in the cave roof onto the lake, an impressive natural experience.
On the west coast is Argostolion, the main town of the island. The peninsula directly opposite the town offers beautiful beaches in small bays and the waters are calm and protected. The southernmost of the Ionian islands, Zakynthos, has another highlight to offer. In the northwest of the island, on the beach of Navagio Bay, lies the wreck of the coaster Panagiotis, which sank in 1980, a popular photo motif for vacationers in this region. Not far from it, on the back of the southern side of the bay, is a small rocky cave, accessible from the sea by dinghy. From here, if time fits your charter, it is worth taking a detour into the Gulf of Patras, past the lagoon town of Missolonghi and under the impressive Rio Andirrion Bridge into the Gulf of Corinth.

Caribbean flair around the northern Ionian Islands

Set sail north, passing the large marina of the town of Lefkada. Here you can stroll along the promenade around the harbor. Worth seeing is the main square of the town, Agios Spyridon Square. Here, colorful houses are closely lined up and cafes invite you to observe the hustle and bustle of the square while sipping a café frappe.
To sail further north, you will cross the Lefkada Channel. Special caution is required here. The well buoyed channel tends to silt up. It is advisable to radio the Coastguard before sailing through the channel and ask for the current depth of passage. In the north of the channel a swing bridge limits the passage, but this is opened once every hour. Now you have made it. A little further on you have the opportunity to explore the Ambracian Gulf, an inland sea. Located to the east behind Preveza, you will find peace and quiet for sailing in this less visited inland area. There are few harbors here, but several beautiful anchorages, such asVonitsa, Amfilochia or Komeno. Also the area around Amvrakikos Wetlands National Park offer relaxing hours with the family and a Greek vacation away from the well-known places. The water quality is sometimes not so clear in the summer months, which is due to the particularly high nutrient density in this area.

Or you can set sail towards the well-known and popular vacation island of Corfu and pay a visit to the islands of Antipaxos and Paxos beforehand. The three northeastern bays of the smaller island Antipaxos are especially known for their Caribbean-like flair, the crystal clear turquoise water, the white sand and the fantastic views of the lush green of the island world. The coast of the larger island of Paxos, located north of Antipaxos, also offers beautiful anchorages for families and not so experienced sailors. The west coast is the rougher side. Here the rocky coastline drops steeply to the sea and offers an impressive sight. Approximately in the middle of the coastline are the blue grottos. At lunchtime, the caves are visited by excursion boats. If you are traveling with your own yacht, it is a good idea to come here in the early morning or afternoon for an excursion. Only one bay further north lies another natural beauty of the island: In the bay of Erimitis the white cliffs rise impressively in front of the azure water towards the sky.
