Yacht charter Marsala
Marsala is located in the province of Trapani in western Sicily and is the largest city in the region. The area is best known for the dessert wine of the same name. Walking through the historic city center, you will pass various palazzi and also many churches from the Baroque period are preserved, as well as the city wall with the two gates. At Capo Boeo there is an archaeological park with the remains of a Roman settlement with special mosaics.
A little north of the city a special landscape opens up to you. The two towns of Trapani and Marsala are in fact also known for their salt production and in Stagnone there are innumerable salt basins from which windmills, used for irrigation and drainage, rise from time to time. Salt has been produced in the lagoon since the Phoenicians lived here over 2000 years ago, and even today it is still produced according to ancient methods. Between Trapani and Marsala there is also a salt museum that informs about the history and use of the fields.
The coast of the Trapani region also offers beautiful bays with turquoise waters and white sandy beaches for swimming.
Off the coast of Marsala there are four islands: San Pantaleo, Isola Longa, Santa Maria and Schola. On San Pantaleo there is one of the first settlements of the Phoenicians called Mozia. Here you can visit the archaeological sites, which are special because they were not built over in the following centuries like other sites.
If you want to go further out, you can also visit the island of Pantelleria, which is already closer to Tunisia than to Sicily, but still belongs to the province of Trapani. The name means daughter of the winds. The island is volcanic and with varied vegetation from pine forest to maquis and succulents is suitable for hiking. By boat it is possible to visit the sea cave Grotta della Storta. There are also remains of an ancient city with acropolis as well as a fortress.
With a yacht charter Marsala to the Egadi Islands
Near Trapani and Marsala lies the archipelago of the Egadi Islands. The main island Favignana is the closest to the mainland. It also has the most inhabitants. Levanzo is about the same height, a little further out comes Marettimo. On Favignana tuna fishing plays an important role. If you are interested, you can visit a tonnara, a tuna factory including a museum, and learn about the mattanza, a fishing tradition in Sicily and Sardinia. The islands have been inhabited by people for a long time, and there are still Paleolithic paintings in the Grotta del Genovese. Also the Saracens have left some, like the fortress Santa Katerina, from which you have a beautiful view of the islands and the sea.
