The city is surrounded by two mountains, the local mountain Monte Pellegrino and Monte Catalfano. As the cultural center of the island, it naturally offers a wide range of activities and entertainment. Walking through the city, the Teatro Massimo and Palermo Cathedral, built in 1184, are among the most impressive buildings in the city. The city has a rich history, which is also reflected in the architecture from a wide variety of centuries. Not far from Palermo is the Monreale Cathedral. In shimmering gold mosaics on its walls were immortalized stories from the Old and New Testaments.
