Palermo is located in the northwest of Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, and is its capital with a size of 670 000 inhabitants. The city is surrounded by two mountains, the local mountain Monte Pellegrino and Monte Catalfano. As the cultural center of the island, it naturally offers a wide range of activities and entertainment. Walking through the city, the Teatro Massimo and Palermo Cathedral, built in 1184, are among the most impressive buildings in the city. The city has a rich history, which is also reflected in the architecture from a wide variety of centuries. Not far from Palermo is the Monreale Cathedral. In shimmering gold mosaics on its walls were immortalized stories from the Old and New Testaments.

City life, history and active volcanoes with a yacht charter Palermo

Palermo can be reached directly from several German airports. On cruises from Palermo you can expect a mild climate, steady wind, crystal clear water and a fascinating nature. Along the varied coastline with its beautiful bays, Messina, which has over 262,000 inhabitants and is also known as the gateway to Sicily due to its proximity to the Italian mainland, and the ancient city of Solunto are particularly worth a shore excursion. Probably founded by the Punic people in the 8th and 7th centuries B.C. respectively, the city on the eastern slope of Monte Catalfano exudes something very special. Not far away are the island of Ustica and the Lipari Islands, of which only seven of the 20 are inhabited. Their equally famous Stromboli volcano is still active today.

If you're looking for longer excursions, a trip along the turquoise Amalfi Coast, lined with numerous bays and cliffs, past Salerno and into the Gulf of Naples is a good idea. On this tour you can visit the eponymous town of Amalfi with the spectacular Cathedral of St. Andrea of Amalfi dating back to 937, the Cilento National Park, the island of Ischia with its pine forests and thermal baths, as well as the archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. From here Sardinia and Capri are only a stone's throw away.
