Yacht charter Kvarner Bay

On a yacht charter Kvarner Bay also families and sailing novices will find a varied sailing area with mostly constant and pleasant wind conditions. You should keep an eye on the weather forecast regarding the bora, a strong wind that comes from the land and blows in summer but rarely, then from mid-September more, especially on the east coasts of the islands near the mainland. The total of 10 inhabited and many uninhabited islands offer easily accessible and varied destinations within a short distance. Starting points in the Kvarner Bay are for example Punat or Rijeka. Both marinas are easy to reach by car or via Rijeka airport, which is located on the northern tip of the island of Krk.

In Rijeka, which was the European Capital of Culture in 2020, the Peek&Poke Computer Museum offers entertaining afternoon entertainment. A total of more than 2000 exhibits on computer, video and audio technology can not only be admired here, but some can also be tried out. With a museum combination ticket from the city, you can also visit the Maritime and History Museum and the Natural History Museum, among others, so it's just the thing for a day ashore.

Close to Rijeka is also Opatija, which was already a popular winter vacation destination in the 19th century, at that time of the richer society. In the Nice of Croatia, therefore, you will also encounter many villas, hotels and residences from that time. A walk through the parks and botanical garden also shows this heritage. You can also stroll along the coast on the 12 km long Lungo Mare promenade. A panorama from the sea is offered by the Učka mountain massif in the background of the city.

Active vacation hiking, diving, windsurfing.

On the island of Cres, nature lovers will find a special natural experience in the protected landscape area around Lake Vrana. The freshwater lake in the middle of the island (not to be confused with Lake Vrana between Zadar and Šibenik, may not be entered, but numerous hiking trails around the lake and through the hinterland offer a good opportunity to enjoy the tranquility. Particularly impressive are the white-headed vultures, which breed on the island and have found a protected habitat here.

Also scuba divers will find a lot to discover on a yacht charter Kvarner Bay. Around the island of Krk, for example, in the south of the island, off the coast near the town of Baška lies a large underwater protected area with over 70 dive sites. The area in the Kvarner Bay is also very popular with wreck divers. Here, for example, lies the wreck of the Peltastis, a Greek freighter which sank in a storm off the town of Silo (Krk) in 1968. It lies at a depth of just under 10 meters and is easy to reach even for beginners. The highlight, however, is off the coast of Istria in front of Pula, the Baron Gautsch, which sank in 1914.

Relaxation while strolling in the bays

For bathing enthusiasts, the area around the islands offers ample opportunities for exploration. On the island of Krk, in the bay of Soline in the northeast, there is a shallow beach whose black silt is said to have healing properties. From here it is also easy to reach the Biserujka Cave, a mystical stalactite cave. The beaches in the many small bays in the southwest of the island are often only accessible from the water, especially the beach Stara Baška with its golden sand is a popular swimming beach.

Beautiful bays are also located around Rab, south of Krk. The shores of the island are green forested, the water is clear and turquoise and the many sandy beaches invite you to visit for more than one day. In the main town of Rab, you can stroll through a very beautiful old town and have a bite to eat in cafes and restaurants. Local wines and a cake named after the island are just some of the culinary offerings.

If you are looking for peace and quiet and relaxed bay strolling, you are also right around the island of Losinj. The main town of the island of Mali Losinj, located in a deep bay, is easily accessible from both sides of the island: From the east through the channel of Osor and from the west through a passage north of the island of Koludarc. Once an important seafaring center, it is now a popular resort and offers sailors a sheltered bay. Just west of town, Cikat Forest Park offers a great opportunity for a walk along the sea and through forests. There are always swimming opportunities and also restaurants to stop at. There is also a wide range of water sports on the island.

Small bays also offer surprises, here the small village of Veli Losinj, one of the first settlements on the island. ©Leonid Tit/AdobeStock
