Yacht charter Southern Sporades

The Sporades are two groups of islands in the Aegean Sea, of which the Northern Sp orades are located east of the Greek mainland, while the Southern Sporades are found just a few kilometers off the Turkish coast. The latter include Rhodes, the main island, and Kos, as well as 170 other islands, of which only 30 are inhabited. The southern part is formed by the Dodecanese islands, the northern part by islands belonging to the prefecture of Samos, including Samos, Ikaria and Fourni.

Suggestions for cruises and presentation of the Dodecanese islands can be found here. During a cruise through the northern Dodecanese, the islands of the prefecture of Samos can be included in two weeks. Here you will not meet mass tourism, the islands have still kept their originality. With the proximity to Turkey, it is tempting to get to know the Turkish coast as well, but be sure to think about clearing in and out. You are not only crossing country borders here, but also the external EU border, so checks are tighter and stricter.

The island of Samos is located only about 2 kilometers from the Turkish mainland. It offers some protected harbors, in the northeast of the island in the Gulf of Vathy is one of the largest natural harbors in the Aegean Sea. Great beaches can be found in the bays of Potami and Psalida. The island is also suitable for beautiful hikes, for example to the monastery of Agh. Ioannou Eleimonnos with a beautiful garden or to the cross-domed church Agia Matrona with special wall paintings.

To the west of Samos lies Ikaria. According to legend, Daedalus buried his son Icarus here. In the main town of Agios Kirykos you can relax in thermal springs and visit the ruins of the ancient city of Drakanos nearby.

Between the two islands and Patmos is Fourni. On the cliffs you can always find grottoes and deep bays with sandy and pebble beaches. No wonder that pirates used to hide here. Many of Fourni's inhabitants are still fishermen and for nature lovers and hikers there are excursions on the island.
