Yacht charter Dodecanese

Dodecanese is a group of islands in the Aegean Sea, which belongs to Greece, but lies only a few kilometers off the Turkish coast. The Dodecanese islands together with a few other islands north of them form the Southern Sporades. Of the approximately 160 islands, only 25 are inhabited. The islands are usually never far from each other, so they can be reached in relaxed day trips.

Kos is located in the center of the archipelago. From here, it is easy to plan trips to the north or south. Within two weeks you can also explore both directions. The capital of the same name is at the same time the economic and cultural center of the archipelago, here you can get well supplied and already immerse yourself in the flair of the islands. The islands can also be combined with a trip to the Gulf of Gökova, to the Datca Peninsula or in the direction of Marmaris. But you have to think about clearing in and out. You are not only crossing country borders here, but also the EU's external border, so checks are tighter and stricter.
Alternatively you can start your yacht charter Dodecanese from our base in Rhodes.

Yacht charter cruise in Northern Dodecanese

From Kos to the north you first reach Kalymnos. The island presents itself from the water first with rugged, steep and towering mountains. But on a round trip you will be surprised by a different appearance after every turn: Small villages and deep-cutting bays offer a completely different appearance than the neighboring islands. In the northwest lies the well-protected anchorage Emporio, here you lie in a dreamlike setting and can enjoy the beautiful beach.

On Leros, on the other hand, rolling hills and green forests characterize the island. At the same time Leros shows itself as we imagine Greek islands: Small, white-blue houses, beautiful villas, hidden alleys and cozy places that can be discovered on hikes - as well as quite a few beautiful beaches. From the bays Ormos Alintas or Ormos Panteli you reach the beautiful main village Agia Marina/Platanos. Above the town the castle is visible from afar and waits for visitors who want to enjoy the great view from here. In the north of Leros lies the very well protected bay of Partheni, a practical stopover for those who want to sail further north.

Only a few nautical miles north of Leros lies the tranquil island of Lipsi with its numerous small side islands. On the west side of the island, sailors will find a well-protected harbor in the picturesque main town of Lipsis, and anchoring is also possible here in the bay. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, fortunately there are no tourist crowds here yet. If you want to anchor, you can also head for one of the larger bays on the northern or southern tip of the island.

On the east side of the island of Patmos is the large natural harbor Skala. In the north of the bay you can moor at a yacht jetty, in the village there are very good supply possibilities. The very beautiful main town of the island (Greek: Chora) is located above the bay and was built around the famous monastery of St. John, the alleged place of origin of the apocalyptic Revelation of John. A visit to the site and the monastery is definitely worthwhile - preferably quite early in the morning, before the daytime and cruise tourists.

On the south side of Arki there are several deeply cut bays, including that of Porto Augusta. Here you can lie very well protected on a concrete quay. In a cozy taverna you can end the day here in peace and quiet. A good alternative is the anchorage on the east side of Marathos. The beautiful beach there is a good place to relax while looking out over the rolling hills of the surrounding area. There is also a taverna here.

If you want, you can have your peace and quiet on Agathonisi: On the south side of the island there are two bays, each with a small side bay, where you can anchor. If this is too lonely for you, you can moor in the small ferry harbor, where there are taverns and a mini-market. Officially, the northern border of the Dodecanese is reached here, the next possible destination in northern direction would be the island of Samos.

If you want to include the Cyclades in your trip from Kos, you can use Astypalea as a jumping-off port. On the westernmost island of the Dodecanese you can already feel the proximity to the Cyclades: the white cube houses immediately convey a vacation atmosphere. In addition to the picturesque small towns, there is also a castle to visit here via the main town.

Yacht charter trip through the southern Dodecanese Islands

20 nautical miles south of Kos lies Nisyros. In the northern part there are two ports, Mandraki and Paloi. Mandraki is the main town of the island, beautiful, but also quite touristy. Nevertheless, walking through the narrow streets is a pleasure. Safer, especially in Meltemi, however, is Paloi, a little further east. Either way, a trip to the active volcanic craters in the island's interior makes a visit to Nisyros unforgettable. Unfortunately, you won't get rid of the smell for a long time either - it smells quite strongly of sulfur here.

From Nisyros you can head for Tilos or the small island of Chalki, for example. The only place of the barren island is atmospherically and visually very similar to Symi and really worth seeing. Since the harbors and anchorages of the neighboring island of Rhodes are all on its eastern side, Halki is a good stopover before sailing around the largest of the Dodecanese islands. At the northern tip of Rhodes lies the main town of the same name, here you can enjoy urban flair and admire the historic sights of the old town lying behind mighty walls. An alternative or an additional destination can be the beautiful Lindos on the east coast - fantastically located, but also very crowded in the high season.

From Rhodes it is about 20 nautical miles to Symi. The island with its many anchor bays is a small sailor's paradise. Recommendable is for example the Ormos Panormitu in the southwest - a perfect natural harbor. Absolutely worth seeing is also the main village of the island, whose colorful buildings seem to grow out of the rock. It is best to come here in the evening or early in the morning to avoid getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of day trippers.
