The city of Marmaris in the southwest of Turkey has developed from a fishing village into a yachting center. It is a good starting point for a cruise on the Turkish Riviera, as the coast north and south of the city is also fondly called. From here, the Greek island of Rhodes is also only about 25 nm away.

Marmaris lies in a large bay and has developed into an attractive base for yacht charter tourism. Therefore the sailors will find many interesting sights which are certainly worth stopping over for. You can also visit a typical bazaar or start your trip in a Turkish hamam, and numerous water sports are also offered. Marmaris was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1958, only in the quarter around the old castle a part of the picturesque old town has been preserved. Here you can relax after shopping on the first day and slowly immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Turkish Aegean, which will accompany you in the next time. If you want to start from a smaller town, you can alternatively sail from Orhaniye in the beautiful Gulf of Hisarönü.
Towards the south there are beautiful bays, like Dalyan Bay. This is where the river of the same name flows in. If you follow it, you will soon find yourself in the town with the same name. A highlight on the way are the tombs of the kings of Kaunos. Mausoleums carved into the mountain from the Lycian period with columns and ornaments. If the spirit of discovery drives you on, you will reach the freshwater lake Köycegiz Gölü behind Dalya. Back in the bay, to the south, lies the beautiful and family-friendly beach Iztuzu, where the sea is shallow.
Continuing along the coast to the south, you reach the Gulf of Fethiye. Here there are many small bays surrounded by greenery and several islands to explore. Since this part is more touristy than the north, you should look for an anchorage early. On the other hand, the wind and sea conditions are calm and well suited for families and beginners. Alternatively, there is also a base in Fethiye, which is suitable for cruises along the beautiful Lycian coast further south.
