Although Syros means "rocky", the mountainous landscape is far from the only thing that awaits you here. Culturally, the island awaits due to the former prosperity with classicist villas and several churches with extraordinary icon paintings. A pleasant mixture of tradition and modernity away from the mass tourism of the neighboring islands. From here you can plan a Cyclades cruise to both the northern and southern islands.

Syros is located west of Mykonos and north of Paros and belongs to the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea. It is popular among Greeks as a vacation island. Once one of the most important trading centers in Greece, neoclassical-style villas in the main town of Emoupoli still bear witness to the town's wealth. The master builder of the Apollo Theater was inspired by Italian models such as La Scala in Milan. Built in the 1860s, it is still possible to attend operettas, operas, musicals, concerts and festivals in the beautiful hall. The Archaeological Museum in the Town Hall enlightens about the history of the Cyclades. During the day Petros Protopapadakis is the main shopping street of the city, in the evening you can go out in the Aktis Ethnikis Antistasseos, which is located directly at the harbor.
Syros is home to interesting churches, both Orthodox and Catholic, such as Agios Nikolaos in the north of the city, dedicated to the patron saint of seafaring, Nicholas of Myra. The Anastasis is located on Mount Vrontado and offers a beautiful view of the city. In the Kimissi Theotokou you can see an icon of the Mother of God by the Greek artist and main master of Spanish Mannerism El Greco. The Metamorfossi has some special wood carvings and icons.

The south is busier, here you can find small villages and beaches to relax. The northern half of the island is more mountainous and a suitable destination for hikers. You will be rewarded with lonely beaches and the one or other grotto to explore.
In the bay of Grammata ("letters") in the north of the island, the sailors who sought shelter from the Meltemi here have left their names and prayers in the rocks. They date back to ancient times and the Middle Ages. Here you can find a beach protected from the northern winds and a little solitude. Other beautiful beaches in the north are Barbarousa, Aetos, Marmari and Gria Spilia.
