Yacht charter La Maddalena

Your yacht charter La Maddalena will take you first to the main island of the Maddalena archipelago. The small town of Maddalena radiates a tranquil atmosphere with its narrow alleys, the many piazzi and the waterfront promenade. The pedestrian zone invites you to stroll and cafes and restaurants always offer the opportunity to linger briefly or even longer. The church of Santa Maria Maddalena in the heart of the city houses a small diocesan museum, which among other things exhibits manuscripts of Admiral Nelson. For those interested in history, a visit to the Museo Archeologico Navale Nino Lamboglia is also recommended; this museum of underwater archaeology exhibits, among other things, a Roman shipwreck from the 2nd century BC.

To explore the island and get an overview, it is suitable to make a round trip along the panoramic road, which follows the coast around the island. In the town near the marina there is a scooter rental, so you can not only discover the numerous beaches of the island, but even reach the neighboring islands Giardinelli and Carprera over dams. For those who like it a bit more sporty, take one of the hiking or biking trails into the island's hinterland to experience the South Sea charm of the emerald-colored bays. The hiking trails are mostly former shepherd paths, which have been signposted. The trails are not difficult, but it should be noted that there are no springs and little shade on the islands. The highest elevation of the archipelago is Monte Teialone on the neighboring island of Caprera with only 212 meters above sea level, but it is still worth the trip, in good weather you have a great view over the flat island and the surrounding archipelago.

Discover lonely beaches with south sea character

Of course the bathing pleasure on your yacht charter La Maddalena is not neglected. On the island itself we recommend Spiaggia di Cala Spalmatore in the east of the island. Due to its sheltered location and the clear gently sloping beach it is particularly suitable for children. Or the Bassa Trinita, a more secluded beach located in the west of the island.

The entire archipelago offers countless bays with varied but always impressive beaches, such as in the east of Caprera the Cala Coticcio, a small beach framed by enchanted rock formations. At the picturesque beach of Cala Granara, on the island of Isola Spargi, you can even meet a domestic pig that lives wild here but is good-natured. It should be noted that the archipelago with its 62 islands was classified as a geo-marine conservation project in 1994. In some places it is forbidden to sail in the bays, but in others access by land is allowed. Spiaggia Rosa on Isola Budelli is completely closed to visitors. The beach is sometimes more, sometimes less pink due to the presence of certain microorganisms. However, this impressive picture can be seen from the sea. Despite the restrictions, which all serve to preserve this unique spot of nature in its originality, a visit to the archipelago is no less recommended. The area around the islands requires attention when sailing, shallow waters and several reefs demand sailing skills.

Costa Smeralda - crystal clear turquoise waters and luxurious resorts

The Costa Smeralda on Sardinia's north coast is within easy reach of your yacht charter La Maddalena and offers a bit of a sophisticated change from the nature experience of Maddalena Park. In the 1960s the area was acquired by an investment group around the billionaire Karim Aga Khan to create there a vacation resort for the high society. The masterpiece is Porto Cervo, an architecturally well thought-out planned town, which nevertheless nestles on the hillside in terraces with great respect for the natural surroundings. Worthwhile is a visit to the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, which takes place every summer. Only a maximum of 30 yachts of a minimum size of 24 meters are admitted each year. The regatta route along the Costa Smeralda and the Maddalena archipelago is adjusted at short notice to the weather and wind conditions. Good chances to have a look at the yachts are from Capo Ferro, located north of Porto Cervo.
Another beautiful bay can be found, for example, in Poltu Quatu, west of Capo Ferro. The name of the village means "hidden bay" in Sardinian dialect. It stretches into the island like a narrow fjord, so that the harbor is protected from the wind. A little further west, the former fishing village of Cannigione and its hinterland offer peace and seclusion. If you are interested in the early history of this region, take a trip to the giant tomb of Coddu Vecchiu. The complex dates back to the Bronze Age Bonnanaro culture and is considered the best preserved site of its kind.

Directly opposite the La Maddalena archipelago is the small town of Palau, nestled in a wild and unspoiled landscape. After your arrival, stroll along the beach promenade or enjoy the traditional Sardinian cuisine in one of the cozy restaurants. In the evening, visit the daily market in the center, where you can buy everything from regional handicrafts to clothing and sweets. Already mentioned by Ptolemy in his Geographia, the so-called Bear Rock "Roccia dell' Orso" is worth a visit. The stone on Capo d'Orso, carved out of the granite by wind and weather over millions of years and shaped like a bear, looks out over the cape and the surrounding islands. The view is worthwhile and not far away is the fortress of Capo d'Orso, dating from the beginning of the 19th century. The fortress, which was used until the end of the Second World War, was built of massive granite blocks and is slowly being reclaimed by nature. From here you have a beautiful view over Palau, the lighthouse and the sea.

Whether it's relaxing hours in the great outdoors, leisurely family sailing or a flying visit to the world of the rich and famous, everyone is sure to find something to their liking on a La Maddalena yacht charter. Emerald green sea, azure blue sky and rock formations imaginatively shaped by nature round off your sailing trip off the north coast of Sardinia to an unforgettable experience.
