The Tyrrhenian Sea is called a part of the Mediterranean Sea, which lies between the Italian mainland and the islands of Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily. To the north it merges into the Ligurian Sea and to the south it is joined by the open Mediterranean Sea.

Especially in the south you can find the still active volcanoes Etna, Stromboli and Vesuvius. From the ports of Tuscany you can enjoy not only the coast with its long sandy beaches, but also the French island of Corsica with its blooming macchia. From Cecina, San Vincenzo, Puntone di Scarlino and Punta Ala the Tuscan Archipelago is also not far for island hopping. Those who want to start directly from the archipelago can do so from Portoferraio on Elba. Talamone and Monte Argentario is offshore the small island of Giglio Porto and on the way towards Corsica the island of Montechristo. It is tempting to visit the famous island, known from Alexandre Dumas "The Count of Monte Cristo". Since the island is a nature reserve, it can be entered only with special permission, so you can enjoy the sight only from afar and remember the stories.
Lazio'scoast and the Pontine Islands are best approached from Nettuno or from the island of Ponza. The volcanic islands offer a unique landscape not only above but also below the water surface.

Also from Palermo, the capital of the island, the islands can be approached or the west of Sicily can be explored. Here are also the cities of Trapani and Marsala, known for their salt production and the famous Marsala wine. They are located on the border with the Mediterranean Sea, which is why Trapani is also called "the city between the seas".
